Produce Quiz Winner: BOB FILIANO

Produce Category Buyer
McAneny Brothers, Inc.
Export, PA

Bob Filiano’s journey in produce began at a regional grocery store at age 17, where he explored various departments before finding his passion in produce, thanks to mentorship from an assistant manager.
“Balancing work with college, I transitioned into management training post-graduation, spending a decade as a produce manager. I aspired to become a produce buyer, when McAneny Brothers offered me the chance, igniting my career,” says Filiano.

At McAneny Brothers Inc., he says he kicks his day off with an email check while he enjoys his morning coffee, and he addresses any urgent matters. He then strolls through the produce coolers to ensure inventory is in order.

Back at his desk, he dives into market analysis, crafting orders for the day. “I love the dynamic nature of the market, engaging with vendors to make deals,” says Filiano.

Filiano says spare time is a luxury. “With a loving wife and three hockey-playing children, we’re immersed in hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse and spend most evenings at the rink or traveling for tournaments. Coaching adds another layer of fulfillment to our family’s passion for the sport.”

When asked what he likes most about Produce Business, he says the magazine serves as a beacon for industry trends, offering insights into market movements and innovative merchandising strategies nationwide.

“I particularly enjoy the Produce Watch section for its industry updates and the magazine’s thorough spotlight on seasonal shifts, keeping me informed and inspired.”
